JACQUELINE GYAMFI GREENE has played just one game for Chelsea this season, in which she was replaced by Caroline Massey.
The midfielder made her first start of the season on Sunday and, despite her lack of game time, she made the most of it by making a string of crucial interceptions.
In an entertaining start to the season, Green is an ideal partner for the team that has only had a couple of matches together this season.
With Chelsea having a new coach, the first team squad will not be without players who have the experience and confidence to step up and take on the responsibility of the starting 11.
Green is already proving to be a valuable asset to the team, with her experience in defence, her aerial ability and her dribbling ability.
The Blues have a number of options in midfield, with a number that are already well established, with Ashley Cole, Nathaniel Chalobah, Sofiane Feghouli and Dominic Solanke also among those who have made the step up to the first-team squad this season and will provide the Blues with options on the wings.
The team has also had several players leave their positions for club or international duty this season due to injury, so there will be many more changes to the starting XI in the coming weeks.
A good start to 2017 will certainly be rewarded by a solid performance from Green on Saturday, which will be an opportunity for Chelsea to build on the positive result from their previous match against Bologna.
